This service is available to all Asian women between the ages of 12 to 55 years in Newham. It has been running since 1997 and has worked with over 150 Asian women and young women in the last year alone. This number clearly indicates the level of need for such a service typically perceived to be difficult to reach.
The counselling helped because for once I didn't have to explain my culture and background on top of everything else.

In particular, NAWP counselling is committed to ensuring that we, as front-line service providers are easily accessible and approachable. Women who come to NAWP counselling services present with a range of issues and are often affected by multiple concerns. These include depression, stress and anxiety, bereavement, self-harm, sexual abuse and violence at home. NAWP employs three accredited counsellors who between them speak Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Bengali.

Counsellors are based at the NAWP Resource Centre and also run counselling sessions at a local GP surgery. Counselling has helped many women to deal with painful early life experience, enabling them to move on and have some agency of their life.

The counsellors, who are all Asian, provide a short program of therapy, a minimum of ten and a maximum of twenty sessions, in the five main Asian languages which are; Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, and Bengali.

Our counsellors adhere to the B.A.C code of ethics and practice.
