Refuge - a safe place for women and their children escaping violent or abusive husbands or partners/families.
Its not easy to get up and leave......I feel that I achieved something coming to the refuge.......it saved my life.
NAWP service user.
NAWP's refuge services combine both first and second-stage hostels. Refuge services are based locally and NAWP has now taken responsibility for the management of a refuge in the borough of Haringey.

Our second-stage hostel provides a crucial step towards independent living, where women and children are afforded greater independence, manage their personal budgets and begin the process of resettlement back into the community. Education, training and career advice is made available to women, alongside opportunities for health promotion, ESOL and literacy skills.

Central to all of our work is the empowerment of Asian women. From the initial point of contact with a woman a total 'person centred' approach is taken, she is listened to and her particular experiences validated without question. Our counsellors adhere to the B.A.C code of ethics and practice.

  • 54 women were housed at the NAWP refuge, Haringey refuge and the NAWP second-stage hostel combined.

  • 71 children in total were accommodated at the refuge and second-stage hotel.

  • 16 women benefited from NAWP counselling services.

  • 10 women in total were resettled into their own property.

  • 4 women with no-recourse to public funds were housed at the refuge and second-stage hostel.
