The Training Service was set up in 1996 to target local Asian women whose limited skills in English prevented them from accessing education and employment or participating in social and cultural activities. In 2008, the service was awarded "excellent" in its first Ofsted inspection. Over the years, such training has excelled in providing mainstream educational support, and has extended these opportunities to all Black and Minority Ethnic women, many of whom face racism and discrimination or who have limited experience of the UK, or who have a lack of knowledge of formal routes to work or education. As well as providing vocational courses, the Training Service offers a variety of soft courses and support groups targeted at those women who suffer from a lack of self esteem, depression or sense of isolation, or who have undergone any form of traumatic experience related to violence and abuse.
