The training programme was set up in 1996 to target unemployed local Asian women who had been prevented from accessing education, employment, social and cultural activities because of their limited English skills.
I gained computing skills and improved my English but most of all I gained self confidence by doing things I never knew I could.
Trainee.

NAWP is supported by a range of funders to deliver training, educational initiatives and career development opportunities to Asian women living in Newham. Asian women are disproportionately affected by social and economic exclusion and poor educational and professional attainment.

We have established a highly successful collaboration with the Green Street Partnership and have recently been awarded funding from the Association of London Governments (ALG) and the European Social Fund (ESF) to develop our pioneering Personal and Professional Development Programme (PPDP). Training programmes include Childcare, ESOL, ICT and keep fit.

  • 214 accessed training last year.

  • 154 further training and education.

  • 48 women went to voluntary placements.

  • 9 women secured employment.

  • 40% of women attended NAWP's integrated Child Care and ESOL NVQ course.

  • 30% attend ICT courses which include word-processing and internet skills.
